Our commitment
KC Mobility Scooter Rentals LLC exists to serve people with mobility and accessibility needs. This satellite site — like the equipment we rent — should be an example of accessible design in practice rather than a promise about someone else's accessibility. We treat the site's accessibility as a first-class feature, not a retrofit.
Standards we follow
This site is designed to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the Level AA conformance target, with AAA-level choices where reasonable. Specific implementation decisions include:
- Text contrast at AAA. Body text renders as true black on true white (21:1 contrast ratio) rather than a lighter grey. Gold accent color is reserved for buttons, links, and eyebrows where its 9:1+ contrast against white or black exceeds WCAG AA requirements.
- Large readable body text. Body type sits at 18px — larger than the typical 16px web baseline — with a 1.6 line-height for comfortable reading.
- Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface. The primary typeface was designed by the Braille Institute specifically for improved character recognition by readers with low vision.
- Visible keyboard focus. Every interactive element shows a 3px gold focus outline when reached by keyboard — no "focus-invisible" states.
- Skip-to-main link. A keyboard-accessible skip link bypasses the header and navigation to jump directly to the main content of each page.
- Semantic HTML and ARIA. Proper heading hierarchy,
<nav>landmarks, ARIA labels on icon-only controls, andaria-hidden="true"on decorative graphics. - Touch targets at 44×44px. All interactive elements meet WCAG 2.2's enhanced target-size rule — important for motor-accessibility and for users on touchscreen devices.
- Reduced-motion honored. If your operating system is set to reduce motion, every animation and smooth-scroll on this site is disabled.
- Alt text on all meaningful imagery. Decorative images carry empty alt attributes; content images carry descriptive alt text.
- Form labels. Every form field uses a proper
<label>element; placeholders are never used as a substitute for labels.
What's not yet there
We're transparent about the gaps:
- The site has not yet been tested with a broad range of assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack). Automated checks pass, but automated checks only catch a fraction of real accessibility issues. We plan to commission a manual audit before widely promoting the site.
- Some existing product photography is manufacturer-supplied placeholder content. Final dealer photography will include proper alt text describing the scooter's form factor, not just its brand.
- Video content, when added, will include captions and transcripts. No video is currently on the site.
Reporting an accessibility issue
If you encounter a part of this site that's hard to use with assistive technology, hard to read, or otherwise creates an accessibility barrier — please tell us. We treat reports as first-priority work:
- Email: jeff@kcmobilityscooterrentals.com
- Phone: 913-775-1098
- Mail: 703 Pennsylvania Ave, Leavenworth, KS 66048
Please include the page URL where you hit the issue, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. We'll respond within two business days and will tell you our plan to fix the issue (or, if it's a design limitation, a workaround).
Positioning note
KC Mobility Scooter Rentals LLC is a hospitality rental service — not a medical provider. We rent mobility equipment; we do not bill insurance, process prescriptions, or provide medical advice. If you have specific health questions about whether a particular piece of mobility equipment is appropriate for your situation, please consult your physician or a medical equipment specialist. The accessibility commitment on this page applies to the website itself; it is separate from the rental service's hospitality-rather-than-medical positioning.
